Snowfall Chinese Drama Review

I’ll keep this review on Snowfall starring Ouyang Nana, Gao Wei Guang, and Winwin, short. I don’t want to waste much time with the introduction, let’s get straight to the review.

Snowfall Chinese Drama Review
Our Score

First of all, this drama reminded me of Rattan. Most elements in the story are similar to Rattan. I mean, both dramas’ setting is during the republican era. Rattan’s story began in the republican era before the time skip to the modern era. So these two dramas feature people with supernatural abilities. The ML in Snowfall was searching for someone to get answers. The FL in Rattan was also searching for someone to get answers. A lot of similarities between the two dramas, but I don’t want to drop spoilers.

At first, the storyline was good. It laid a solid foundation and I was curious about the upcoming episodes. The build-up for the beef between Mr Shen and Liang just got me focused. I could even say it was the highlight of the story. The hatred Liang had for Mr Shen was something else. I usually get annoyed by such characters who hate people without understanding them but Liang is something else. Bro went from taking over businesses to spending every minute of his life chasing after Mr Shen.

Then there’s Mi Lan who instantly plays a huge role in the story by saving Mr Shen. Mi Lan is from one of the rich families and she’s blind. She’s also mistreated by her family, her mother often beats her. So she wanted to end her life since she couldn’t handle the abuse. This is where the leads met. Mi Lan continues to play an important role in the story. She saved Mr Shen multiple times and also became bait for his enemies. Now Mr Shen had a weakness.

I was fine with the story, but then it got more interesting when they introduced Miss Mu. She’s also from a family with supernatural powers and a curse that has been passed down from generation to generation. Her involvement got me excited since there’s someone who can challenge Mr Shen. But then that excitement didn’t last long.

The problem is, the way they handled Situ Weilang’s identity. First of all, it was predictable from the beginning. His speech and actions made it obvious. Secondly, nothing about him changed. After his identity was exposed, there was no character development. His new identity didn’t give Mr Shen the answers he was seeking. He also stated he’s the powerful one but he rarely used his powers and he’d get saved even when fighting. They didn’t handle his character well, it lacked a lot. I thought once his identity is exposed he would come up with something that will fire up the storyline but no.

Mi Lan’s character development was a flop in my view. I liked Mi Lan when she was blind because she was intelligent. She somehow became annoying when her blindness was healed. She started making silly decisions without thinking. She was also made invincible because she could pass through danger even though she was blind. Everything was smooth for her. I still admire her loyalty to Mr Shen.

This guy playing Mr Mo’s character was also in Rattan. He was also the all knowing but yet mysterious and we never get much information about him. I mean, even on Rattan we didn’t get much information about him.

To close this review, Snowfall is a good drama and I recommend it. I wouldn’t say it’s the best because of the second half of the drama. It was boring and dragging. They were playing in circles.
