Moon Love Review

Moon love is also known as Moon romance, I was anticipating this drama since last year. Let’s get straight to the review.

Moon Love Review
Our Score

Story

Yun Zhaoyan was blind but the moon God fulfilled her wish but giving her an eyesight. But the eyesight comes with a challenge, she see what normal humans can’t see. So she returned to Qingzhou city to pay homeage to her parents. Ren Shique is the moon God who has been in the mortal world for ten years because of an incident that happened ten years back. Yun Zhaoyan met Ren Shique who’s now the imperial censor, at the moon festival.

The story is quite unique because the female lead interacts with renegade immortals and she understands their thoughts. So the whole drama revolves the eyes Yun Zhaoyan got and the mission of sending those renegade immortal back to their world by fulfilling their last wishes. I just loved this kind of story and I had time to move from the usual storylines.

Having a unique storyline doesn’t mean everything about it will be satisfying. I somehow lost a little bit of interest in the drama from episode 12 because they were dragging. Maybe it’s only me, but from episode 12 to episode 18, I was skipping some scenes. They were having too many dialogues without bringing something new. I even got tired of watching Yun Zhaoyan interacting with the renegade immortals because I already knew what she will do next.

Most parts were predictable, even the story of Yun Zhaoyan getting eyes. I predicted it the moment Yun Zhaoyan said Ren Shique is blind, but I couldn’t predict the reason behind the eye transfer 🤣.

Chemistry

I’m sorry guys, but I loved the second leading couple more than the leads. I could get enough of them. The leads were also good but they were not clicking. I don’t know if it’s just because of the script or they were holding back. The second leading couple saved the drama when it comes to chemistry.

Disappointments

Im quite disappointed they didn’t build a plot using Wu Tu story. They did explain everything but it would’ve been nice to see Wu Tu taking over one or two episodes. Wu Tu as the governor is the best thing in this drama. I can skip every scene but not his scenes. That guy is a whole mood, every time he opens his mouth he is going to say something crazy.

I also wished they could’ve added a plot about the Heavenly emperor and Ku Ji. Their story is interesting since Ku Ji is a fox demon and could also include Han Ying in the mix. Han Ying clearly has a grudge against Ku Ji, they could’ve created something on that.

I’m mentioning additional subplots because it was tiring to follow one story in all episodes. I immediately lose interest in watching if there’s nothing new that can shift me from the main story for a while. When I look at the episodes of Moon love and its story, I see two paths. The drama should’ve been a mini drama running for 10 minutes or they should’ve added some subplots to strengthen the story.

Moon Love ending

Moon Love has a happy ending. The couples finally reunited and they lived a happy life. It was nice to hear Dahao talking at the end. He’s been a guardian angel for Yun Zhaoyan since episode 1, I always wanted to hear him talk. I just didn’t like the long flashbacks on the last episodes. It was as if they were trying to hit the 40 minutes mark on each episode.

Final take on Moon Love

Moon Love is a drama worth watching. This is one of the dramas you can watch just to take a break from the ones with heavy storylines. It’s not a high budget drama, so don’t expect a lot from it. I do recommend Moon love to anyone who wants something light.
