Drama Review: And the Winner Is Love (Luo Yun Xi, Chen Yu Qi)

Let’s go back in time and take a look at Yunkee Chen and Luo Yunxi’s drama called And the winner is love. I once watched about five episodes in 2020 and had to drop it because of College Exams so you can say I’m finishing my mission. We are going to take the usual format, First impressions, the good, the bad, conclusions and the ratings.

Drama Review: And the Winner Is Love (Luo Yun Xi, Chen Yu Qi)

Synopsis.

A story between Chong Xue Zhi, the young mistress of the Hall of Flame who sets out on a journey, and Shangguan Tou, the master of the Moon Valley who only has eyes for her.

Chong Xue Zhi, the young mistress of Hall of Flames, ventures into the martial world for the first time. She meets Shangguan Tou, the graceful yet imposing master of Moon Valley. The Lotus God Nine Stance Technique, which serves as the Hall of Flames’ greatest treasure gets stolen. Chong Xue Zhi is banished from her home and assassins are sent after her. She survives through the help of Shangguan Tou and they fall in love.

Chong Xue Zhi is reunited with her second father Lin Chang Ran and learns that her father left behind a secret manuscript to counter the demonic manifestation from practicing the Lotus God Nine Stance Technique. Meanwhile, a mysterious man who has mastered the technique has committed multiple murders, instilling fear amongst the people. Despite the hardships and misunderstandings between them, Shangguan Tou and Chong Xue Zhi join hands to reveal the evil mastermind and bring peace back to the lands.

First impression.

Is it really first impressions or second impressions? Either way, the first three episodes were a bit confusing the first time I watched the drama but I began to have a clear understanding of the drama when I watched it for the second time. The foundation of the story was well laid but there were some scenes that made me ask myself ‘what’s the use of arguing when no one is making a valid point?’ We all know that every story must start with a little incident that will eventually give birth to new plots, this drama is no exception. They planted the seed on the right soil but will the plant bear fruits?

The Good.

I don’t think there’s a lot to mention on this section, it’s like everything started on the right track but then I suddenly lost connection with the drama even though it featured most talented actors and actresses. I have zero complaints about the playlist, I loved every song especially the opening song. I also liked the costumes, Xuezhi’s had the best wardrobe and that’s all I could say about the drama’s positive side.

The Bad.

1.Dragging.

It might sound like I’m exaggerating but this drama should’ve been 24 episodes long due to lack of new plots. They dragged one storyline from the beginning of the drama till the last episode with useless dialogues and countless misunderstandings. I lost count on how many times Tou and Xuezhi fell in a misunderstanding and I even lost count on how many times Tou and Xuezhi had a chance to defeat Xue Li.

2. Weak storyline.

Storyline is the foundation of the drama but this drama’s foundation is weak. At first, the storyline is cool and stuff but you begin to ask yourself why are you forcing yourself to finish the drama. It had one of the weakest storylines ever, one episode felt like ten episodes. All sects are fighting for two manuals which they call evil but yet want to practice the techniques in the manuals, this could’ve had better plots and twists.

3. Who’s the leader?

Hall of Flame’s leader Xuezhi is only a leader by name. Her character didn’t prove that she was fit to be the leader, she was always protected even after she improved her martial arts. It was rare seeing her taking major decisions for the sect, there will always be someone who speaks on her behalf and takes her spotlight. Xuezhi had the worst build up as a leader and I’m so glad to see her on Mirror:tale of twin cities.

4. Fighting.

From the beginning of the drama, they promoted The lotus wing God as the most powerful technique but I was disappointed when they started showing it to us. There’s nothing special about the technique, it looked like a normal sword technique with a little lotus flower power up on the other hand. Then you’d expect good fighting scenes since the technique is powerful but all you see is Xuezhi swinging the sword and that’s it. They did try to use explosions whenever someone used it but it wasn’t convincing.

5. What an Angle, yey!

The camera angle was only from the chest to the head. I thought they will change it but they avoided it. It’s useless to wear full attire knowing very well that they will only capture your upper body only.

Conclusion.

All I can say is I’m highly disappointed with this drama. I did expect a lot from it since it had Luo Yunxi and Yunkee Chen but I got something worse. I wouldn’t rewatch it even if it’s the only drama left in this world.
