Synopsis.
A story about the three sisters of the Yi family who learn to overcome their differences to save their father’s ailing business in times of war.
The department store business of the Yi family in Shanghai faces a crisis in the late 1920’s. Because Yi Xinghua’s only son has walked away from the business to become a doctor, Yi Xinghua had no choice but to recall his three daughters – Zhong Ling who’s the eldest, Zhong Yu in the middle and Zhong Xiuwho’s the youngest.
The three ladies have very different personalities and upbringing. Zhong Ling is elegant and refined. She is every bit the proper lady as expected of someone of her breeding. Zhong Yu who was raised by her merchant grandfather in Nanyang has grown into a smart and capable woman. Zhong Xiu who studied in the US is a romantic at heart. Having different mothers, the sisters who never got along become locked in a bitter battle for the right to inherit the business.
Yi Xinghua never expected his three daughters to cause such an uproar. Afraid that their relationship would be ruined for good, he hesitated in his decision to announce an heir. Nonetheless, business flourished in his hands until war erupted. In 1941, the Japanese military invaded Shanghai. As a man who loved his country, Yi Xinghua is eventually killed. Having lost their leader, Xinghua department store is once again on the verge of collapse. In order to honor their father’s wish to rejuvenate the country, the Yi children learn to unite in spite of their differences.
