After watching Rattan, I’ve been searching for another similar drama and I stumbled upon My girlfriend is an alien. I’m a bit tired of writing reviews so this might be my last review till further notice unless if I happen to find another exciting drama to write about. This is an official, honest review about a Chinese drama called My girlfriend is an alien.
The drama had a good opening, the introduction of the storyline to us as viewers wasn’t bad. The story was easy to understand from the very first episode and you could see and be part of development of all characters in the drama. I kind of like the concept of an alien girl falling in love with CEO ( has health problems obviously) after following him for some time just to get one of her belongings. Xiaoqi is introduced to us as an alien from cape town planet, I don’t want to spell her full name (it’s too long). what’s more interesting is the fact that in the drama they mentioned South Africa (I’m from there) and they also say Xiaoqi is from Cape Town planet, in South Africa our second capital city is Cape Town. Well, Xiaoqi’s visit to our planet is a bit unclear in the beginning, she tries to learn more about human behavior and also adapts to her surroundings by getting a job and surrounding herself with others.
The drama has lot of scheming between family members and close friends. It has that old school plot of a stepmother trying to drive a wedge between her son and the stepson in order to brighten up her real son’s future. The plot maybe old school but it’s not boring at all, there are a number of unique turns in the plot.
The chemistry between Fang Leng and Xiaoqi is incredible and their love story is fun to watch. The development of their relationship was on a normal pace and you could relate to everything they’re going through together (even though we are not aliens). The drama had a balance share of humour and sadness but it became a bit off when it was reaching the end. I wasn’t impressed by the “break up and reconcile” plots, they were a bit overused to keep the drama going. I was expecting to see more resources from Xiaoqi that proved she was an alien except for her superpowers and the blood, an alien spaceship would have added more interest. The storyline got a little confusing at the end regarding the reason why Xiaoqi came to earth but it doesn’t really affect the original story.
Conclusion.
I had fun watching this drama and I don’t think I wasted my time with this drama. The ending is satisfying and all the characters really played their part well. I’d definitely recommend this drama to anyone who wants to spend some time on alien-human love story.
