Drama Review: The Eternal Love season 3 2021 Chinese drama

There’s no time travel Chinese dramas that made an impact like The Eternal Love. From the moment I saw the trailer of The Eternal Love, I planned to do a full review on the drama and share my thoughts with everyone. There is actually a lot of stuff to talk about regarding The Eternal Love season 3, but I will do my best to keep this review brief and limit spoilers. Do stick around with me.

First Impressions.

You can never get tired of Mo Lichang and Tan’er. On the first episode, first thing we get to see is Tan’er shouting Mo Lichang’s name as always. I don’t know about you guys but I always liked the way she gets angry at Mo Lichang and starts making noise. Fast forward, we get a big surprise. There’s a gender role switch in the story! The moment I got to know that, I thought of Romance of Tiger and Rose. It seems like someone has got a lookalike in this third season. The writer tried to switch plots in first and second seasons to give us something new in the third season. If you swipe both Tan’er and Mo Li Chang’s situation in the third season, you will realise that if it wasn’t for the gender role switch, 80% of the storyline would be the same as season 1&2(is it a coincidence or just laziness?).Of course I quickly noticed few cast changes. There’s a new face in the drama, Mo Chen played by Allen Fang. Oh! before I forget, have you noticed that in most dramas, Allen Fang never gets the girl he wanted?

Positive things.

  •  Lian Jie had played two roles in the eternal love season one and she was impressive but this time she took it to another level by playing another role which is totally different from the one she played in the first season. This shows how versatile Lian Jie can be.
  •  They added new characters (as mentioned before) which saves us from watching the same thing all over again. New characters means new plots and storyline twists.
  • The drama had good martial arts choreography.

Negative things.

  •  I’m not impressed with Tan’er’s marriage, it’s awkward and unrealistic.
  •  I feel like the drama was purposely delaying the action we wanted. In the first and second season, everything was explained to us regarding the cross world saga before we even got halfway through the drama. In this season, the writers used lots of comedy to keep the drama going. Comedy is good but too much of it can be a disaster.
  • The first 20 episodes were a bit null and contained some unnecessary scenes, I was expecting more from the drama. I think it would have been better if the drama had only 10 episodes.

Characters.

The cast did their job well and Allen Fang (not his fan nor his hater) gave a good performance. I just didn’t enjoy watching Yu Hao as a weak character.

Music.

•The music selection is still the same as the first and second season but they added new songs and I also heard some animal sounds when they intend to create a funny scene (impressive).

conclusion.

This drama got more kissing scenes (30+) than action scenes, I wasn’t really that impressed with the storyline and I felt like they cheated us. Maybe I expected more from the drama. If I can choose between all three seasons, I’d definitely choose season 2 and then the first season because they had everything we needed as fans. I wouldn’t recommend this drama to someone who is busy with something important, you may end up regretting watching it. This is only my honest review and I mean no harm.

Rating. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑(3,5/5) The storyline really disappointed me as I kept watching.
