Drama Review: Fake Princess 2020 (Zhao Yi Qin & Eleanor Lee) – Chinesedramaworld

Sometimes I receive some drama recommendations from friends and other Chinese drama fans. This time I wanted a new drama to watch and one of the fans in Facebook group recommended Fake Princess. Yes, I was hesitant to watch it because I never heard people talking about or doing a review. I usually do reviews on dramas that are more popular or have big stars as part of the cast but this time I’m doing a review on a recommended drama. This drama may be released a year ago but I’m certain that there’s someone who hasn’t watched it yet. This is a full review on a Chinese drama Fake Princess.

First Impressions.

The drama got me curious in the first minutes of episode one and I obviously continued watching the drama to understand the reason behind the dramatic scene. Of course as I kept watching the first two episodes I got interested in the drama because of the fake identity plot and the main leads. Arranged marriage dramas are always a fan favorite and it’s rare to find someone dropping an arranged marriage drama. The female lead gave me an impression of Tang Min from The General’s Lady.

Overall.

The pace of this drama is undoubtedly the best, it’s natural for a drama with 27 episodes to speed up everything happening in it but Fake Princess takes the cup. There’s no scene that takes more than five minutes and they don’t add unnecessary dialogues to extend the duration of the scene. The storyline is not confusing at all, everything is clear to you from the very first episode to the last.

Another thing, this drama doesn’t shine the spotlight only on the first and second leads. All characters in the drama look like they are the main leads, they all bring out this feeling of equality in the drama(My opinion). I feel like the director just wanted to ignore the whole “main roles, supporting roles” trend and decided to focus on lighting up the spotlight on everyone( if it’s true then salute to the director). The drama introduced me to great actors and actresses that I never heard of, I only saw the crown prince from another historical drama but didn’t pay much attention to him. I’m also impressed by the female lead, she is soo deep in the act, it’s like she was being herself instead of acting. She connected with this ‘Changle’ character and made Changle part of her. The drama took an impressive turn as it reached the end. The last plot was unexpected especially with the truth behind the female lead’s history.

Most people don’t always give credits to the Extras in most drama. This drama’s Extras made the drama look realistic and you can feel the mood and emotions behind every scene. I honestly think the Extras did an extraordinary job and I really appreciate them.

Music.

The opening song and ending song are suitable for the drama and its theme but I prefer the ending song more than any other song. The drama’s playlist isn’t bad, the music selection is on point but I heard one or two songs that weren’t fit to be part of the selection. The songs were too modern for a historical/costume drama even though the lyrics matched with the drama theme.

Conclusion.

Fake Princess is a must watch drama, if you haven’t watched it yet. It has it all, action, romance, heartbreaking moments, comedy and suspense. I highly recommend it to everyone and it would be a mistake if you don’t watch it. Of course, the drama has a happy ending for most characters.
