Feud Chinese Drama Review (Bai Lu & Joseph Zeng)

Feud Chinese Drama Review
Our Score

Today, I want to review Feud starring Bai Lu and Joseph Zeng. The drama recently aired its final episode, and I have a lot to say. Without wasting time, let’s get straight into the review.

First Impressions

We are starting with the first five episodes as always. At first, the drama was kind of boring for me. I didn’t understand where the story was heading. Bai Jiusi’s appearance was also boring. That was in the first and second episodes.

The drama got a little interesting on episode 3. There was something to hold on to, we had an identity reveal. And we also got introduced to the nine heavens and other new characters.

Storyline

Let me start by saying, I love the storyline. I love how they focused only on the main leads. Yes, other characters have some of their own stories. But it was because they linked to the main leads.

As the name of the drama suggests, there’s a feud between the leads. A deep love and hate relationship between them. There’s a lot of scheming and deception. One wants to end the other’s life.

That was all about the drama… a feud between two Gods. But the storyline isn’t that perfect.

This drama had about 5 plot twists. These plot twists were unexpected and shocking. Normally, we, as the audience, could see what the characters do in secret. But in this drama, they played us as the audience. They show you an apple, and you spend the next hours thinking it’s an apple. Then it unexpectedly turns out to be a banana.

I honestly loved those plot twists, but they were bad at some point. After every twist, the character slowly loses their characteristics. The audience also gets confused. One minute, they’re building Bai Jiusi as a villain. The next thing Silling is being seen as a villain. While you’re still deciding on who was wrong, they shift the blame to someone. Then you start hating that person, and they twist things up again. It got boring; the fun in watching the drama was slowly fading after each twist.

The storyline itself has some loopholes that I couldn’t figure out. I understand this revolves around the feud between Silling and Jiusi. But why didn’t the heavenly emperian help out when heaven was attacked? What was the point of introducing other heavenly characters who seemed to be above Bai Jiusi and Silling, if they had no use for them? The heavenly part of the story kind of sucked if I can be honest.

Another thing I’m curious about is Silling’s snake. Where did it come from, and why did she only use it once? She fought many fights, but she barely called her snake, which makes me wonder what the snake is there for? Besides the heavenly raid, we never saw the snake in action.

Some hidden elements

I noticed that the opening theme song for Feud sounds similar to the OST of Ashes of Love, “Unsullied”. I also noticed that the “night flying wedding carriage” scene was familiar. It looks exactly like the scene from Jet! li’s Last Hero In China film. It was the scene where girls were running away from the traffickers, and they were being chased by a big flying lotus lantern and some crew as if it were a wedding procession. They did exactly the same thing on the Feud scene, except for the lotus. The procession was floating, it was in a misty forest, they were chasing a girl, the music sounded familiar, and almost everything matched.

Feud Ending

Feud has a happy ending, a complex happy ending. But I don’t like the ending. I don’t like the last few episodes because they felt rushed. They made Juisi and Silling weak and helpless in the face of someone who was once a mortal. Those two are supposed to be two of the most powerful beings in the three realms, but they had a hard time beating a human. Immortals feared Silling’s name. No one wanted smoke with Bai Jiusi. At the end, they were weak.

Conclusion on Feud Chinese Drama Review

Despite the negative comments on this review, I enjoyed watching the drama. It was entertaining and always built suspense. I do recommend you watch it if you haven’t watched it yet.
