Former EXO member Kris Wu (Wu Yifan) to spend 13 years in prison PLUS Tax evasion fines.

The Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Court publicly sentenced Wu Yifan to 13 years in prison, plus deportation.


On November 25, 2022, the Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Court publicly sentenced the defendant Wu Yifan (Kris Wu) in the first instance of rape and organizing an orgy.  The 32-year-old former member of the South Korean group EXO was given 11 years and 6 months for a 2020 rape, and 1 year and 10 months for the “crime of assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity” in a 2018 event in which he and others allegedly assaulted two women they were drunk.

After the trial, it was found that from November to December 2020, the defendant, Wu Yifan, took advantage of the opportunity of three drunk women who did not know how to resist or could not resist in his residence, and forcibly had sex with them; on July 1, 2018, In his residence, Wu Yifan, together with others, organized two other women to engage in promiscuous activities after drinking. The Chaoyang District People’s Court held that Wu Yifan’s actions constituted the crime of rape and the crime of organizing an orgy, and should be punished in accordance with the law. According to the facts of Wu Yifan’s crime, the nature, circumstances and harmful consequences of the crime, the court made the above judgment.

In the early stage, the Second Inspection Bureau of the Beijing Municipal Taxation Bureau based on clues from relevant parties and tax big data analysis, legally punished Canadian artist Wu Yifan (WU YI FAN) carried out tax inspections on suspicion of tax evasion from 2019 to 2020. Since Wu Yifan (WU YI FAN)’s large amount of business information and capital transactions involve multiple domestic and foreign affiliated companies, the case is relatively complicated. The Beijing Municipal Taxation Department and relevant taxation authorities have conducted a careful and meticulous investigation, and the case has now been clarified. Wu Yifan’s June trial was closed to the public to protect the victims’ privacy. Wu Yifan has been detained since August 2021 while police conducted an investigation in response to comments online that he “repeatedly lured young women” to have sex, according to a police statement at that time.

Wu  Yifan fined 600 million yuan ($83.7 million) for evading taxes.

After investigation, Wu Yifan evaded taxes by 95 million yuan by means of fictitious business conversion, false declaration of the nature of income, and concealment of personal income through multiple domestic and foreign affiliated companies from 2019 to 2020, and other underpaid taxes. The Second Inspection Bureau of the Beijing Municipal Taxation Bureau pursued tax payment against Wu Yifan in accordance with relevant laws and regulations such as the “Individual Income Tax Law of the People’s Republic of China”, “Tax Collection and Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China”, “Administrative Penalty Law of the People’s Republic of China” and other relevant laws and regulations , Additional late payment fees and fines, totaling 600 million yuan.

Among them, a fine of 4 times the amount of 345 million yuan was imposed on the part of the fictitious business that converted the nature of the income into a false declaration of tax evasion; a fine of 5 times the amount of 42 million yuan was imposed on the part of the part that concealed personal income from tax evasion. A few days ago, the Second Inspection Bureau of the Beijing Taxation Bureau has delivered a tax administrative penalty decision to Wu Yifan in accordance with the law.
