Drama Review: Once We Get Married (Zi Qi Wang,‎Wang Yu Wen )

Once a cdrama fan, always a cdrama addict. One drama after the other, I’m now in too deep with writing reviews. Today let’s look at another review on 2021 modern Chinese drama ‘Once we get married’.

First impressions.

First of all, I had zero expectations on this drama because I didn’t follow it much. People praised it and some had negative things to say about it. I had fun watching the first episode, I loved the main leads. One is a cold, narsistic and arrogant CEO and the other is just a witty designer. Everything was fine but do they really have to always use the “shoe first” stunt when they’re introducing the male leads? Most modern dramas use the same tactics when it comes to male lead’s first appearance. The storyline can be easily predicted, I already smell a love triangle but anyways, let’s see if the drama is worth my time.

overall.

To buy a couture wedding dress for a customer, fashion buyer Gu Xixi sneaks into a high-end party where she knows a bossy president Yin Sichen with a series of lies and becomes his contracted wife for three months. The inexperienced bossy president and the cute and cunning girl start a love game.

The Good.

1. Music.

I want to start by praising the crew who were involved in selecting theme songs for the drama because they did a good job. Each song had its own vibe and could match with the emotions portrayed in each scene. My favorite song has to be the closing theme song.

2. Storyline.

It’s no surprise that in most contract marriage Chinese dramas, the rich guy will end up falling for the poor girl but the development of their relationship is what matters most. The storyline started on the right foot and I honestly thought that they will mess it up as time goes on but they proved me wrong. The writers clearly knew what they were doing because there was no dragging, unnecessary scenes and useless flashbacks. One thing that also kept the storyline going was the love triangle plot, which is inevitable in contact marriages but they’re executed in different ways. Sichen’s childhood friend was like an icing on the cake. The plot of Sichen vs Zixin was also interesting to watch as two CEOs from big companies compete over a girl.

3. Chemistry.

The leading couple sold their love story and if we can be honest, Xixi had many chances to leave Sichen but she stayed with him and helped him overcome all the challenges. She was wronged many times but she still stayed by Sichen’s side. The second leading couple had the best chemistry in my opinion. I connected more with their relationship and their scenes were fun to watch, a mature girl dating a childish CEO, it’s a good plot to move our attention away from the main leads a little. I just wish they gave the second leading couple more screen time because they had a wonderful thing going. I can’t help but feel sorry for Xiaoya for staying single since episode 1, did the writer and director have beef with her?

4.Cast.

From the main roles to supporting roles and guest appearances, all of them did a good job.

5. The Title.

Once we get married is definitely suitable for this drama because their story involves a business deal that is only valid once the two get married.

The bad.

I can’t think of any bad thing in the drama. If you have already watched the drama, do you have any bad thing to mention regarding this drama?

Conclusion.

All 24 episodes of the drama where one of the best and I don’t regret watching this. I discovered new actors and actresses in the drama and I’m definitely going to watch some of their dramas. Once we get married is highly recommended to anyone even if you never watched modern Chinese dramas, I think this is the best drama to start with.

Ratings.

10/10 (The ending song is addictive though 😂)
