Drama Review: Jun Jiu Ling (Peng Xiaoran and Jin Han)

Ever since the release of Jun Jiu Ling, I wanted to watch it and I finally got time to spare. It may have been a while since the drama has been released but like they always say, “sharing is caring”. Today I want to talk about Jun Jiu Ling and our review will be in the usual layout, first impressions, Overall, the good, the bad, conclusion and ratings.

First Impressions.

The opening moments of the first episode were “superb”. I loved the way they introduced us to the storyline. “Avenging my father who died for the throne” plot reminded me of The Long Ballad, they’re more alike. With a fake identity involved in the storyline, it’s no secret that this drama is going to be more interesting along the way. Although there were some tragic moments in the first episode, I was very impressed and that was me buying a ticket to watch all 40 episodes.

Overall.

Princess Jiu Ling receives news that her father’s (crown prince) death wasn’t natural. She tries to take revenge but it turns into a failure. She ends up taking a fake identity of Jun Zhenzhen, her late master’s late daughter.

The Good.

1. Music.

I want to start with music this time because the opening song impressed me a lot and other songs were also good.

2. The Acting.

I had no problem with the acting skills of the cast but I was more impressed by our main leads and Lu Yunqi.

I loved the way the Jiu Ling character was portrayed especially in a situation where two people are portraying one character. As for Lu Yunqi, I thought he was just a boring character but proved me wrong during the last episodes, he totally switched personalities.

3. Storyline.

The storyline was simple and easy to understand, no unnecessary add ons and stuff. The “four guys fall for one girl” plot was more interesting as they competed against each other.

4. Chemistry.

The coincidental meet up between the main leads, 5 seconds hero type of stuff was a great way to build chemistry between the couple and I loved how they got together.

5. No dragging.

Every episode was well planned and it wasn’t full of unnecessary scenes, sometimes I’d even feel robbed because they would cut ‘necessary scenes’ and then replay them as flash back. Each episode had it own challenges and they would make sure that it doesn’t drag to 3+ episodes.

The Bad.

1. Scene full of lies.

There’s this scene where Jiu Ling is locked in a room. She had her legs and hands tied up, so it’s natural that she will try to untie herself but the whole scene was a scam! Jiu Ling is the smartest one in the drama but when she was tied up, she didn’t even think of burning the rope using the candles in the room. It would have been reasonable if the candles were higher.

2. Spotlight on same people.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand why the focus is on Jiu Ling and Zhu Zhan as the main couples but it would have been more interesting if they also focused on other couples. They would have made the drama more interesting by developing other couples.

Conclusion.

If you want to know how to get 4 men to fall for you, then this is the drama to watch (kidding). This drama mostly focuses on revenge but it also has some funny , inspirational and emotional moment, you definitely have to watch it.

Ratings.
