First of all, I never watched an E-sport Chinese drama after dropping Love o2o because i wasn’t a fan of modern dramas, but it seems like I have been missing out on good dramas.Β It’s my first time writing a review on an e-sport drama, if I missed something you can tell me in the comments.
First time watching the drama, I had high expectations from it since it had lots of positive reviews. I always saw other Cdrama fans praising Chen Xiao so I also wanted to see whether she deserves the praises or not. I never watched Chen Xiao in action and she only reached my radar because of Falling into your smile so my view on her will not be biased.
I was stunned by the first episode, a young girl aiming to open doors for other girls in the Industry, it’s quite motivational. Well, the introduction of characters was perfect and I liked the way they would give the name of the character and his role in gaming. It also gives the viewers a different angle of modern dramas (not the usual bossy CEO with an illness etc).
I could relate to their devotion to gaming because I also spent hours watching Chinese dramas, running a blog plus a YouTube channel all in the name of love, and most of you could also relate to the drama when it comes to the part where they always lock themselves indoors for video games (I’m certain you’ve been indoors for a while right now). This drama also shows how it is to be famous, how the media can put pressure on you. Xu Kai’s motto of only marrying the girl who’s better than him in Gaming, is a bit reasonable, maybe I should also swear to date a girl who is a die hard fan of Chinese dramas, lol.
I thought the drama will focus only on gaming and the relationship of Cheng Xiao and Xu Kai but again, I was wrong. This drama had different plots which I found interesting, I became addicted to the drama. It also took a good route by adding few plots about other player’s background and history because we can’t always see the main roles on the spotlight in every plot.
There’s more to the drama than gaming and competition. This drama has a huge lesson for both public figures and us as fans. We as fans often get obsessed with our idols and criticize them when they do what we don’t want, forgetting that they’re also human and they have their own life to live. We as fans, have to differentiate between private life and public life of our idols, give them the privacy they need to deal with their matters.
The characters outdone themselves in giving us the best drama and you can feel the chemistry between the leading couple and the second leading couple, every situation they get tangled in, it feels like you are part of it.
The ending was TOUCHING especially during the finals. I saw a lot of posts and videos about Season 2 of Falling into your smile and I also believe there will be a season 2 because when season 1 ended, the narrator gave a hint and said “see you next year”, so season 2 may be based on the world championship.
Falling into your smile is a great drama to watch and let it be known that I’m now a certified fan of Cheng Xiao.

I agree i became a fan of cheng xiao. I thought her acting was great. And nothing wrong with romance in esports. She did not ruin anything she actually increased its popularity. Well done!
