Maiden Holmes 2020 ( Zhang Ling He & Sebrina Chen) Chinese Drama Review.

Zhang Ling He & Sebrina Chen

There’s something you have to realize about Chinese dramas, once you watch one drama you’ll never stop. No matter how many dramas you watch, you will still search for new dramas. I searched for new dramas to watch and finally found Maiden Holmes. This is a crime investigation and cross-dressing drama. It’s my duty to write a review for each and every drama that I watched and I want to share my view on Maiden Holmes this time.

First Impressions.

I never heard anything related to this drama nor did I see someone recommending it. This drama wasn’t that trending and I’m sure that you also never heard of it.

First time watching the drama, I got reminded of Under the Power because of the female lead and the whole crime investigation story. The male leads are different but there’s lot of similarities between the two dramas. Another cross-dressing drama on my drama list! I actually said that to myself when I watched the first episode then I found myself downloading episode 10(I’m a Chinese drama addict that won’t be rehabilitated).

Overall.

What can I say about this drama? The graphics aren’t bad at all and they chose a good location to film the drama. The drama has lot of investigations and luckily, they solve the investigation quickly. For a cross dressing drama with false identities, it’s reasonable for the writers to focus more on the female lead and her past.

This drama has some important lessons in terms of friendship. The first and second leads portrait how a real friendship should be like, they started out as strangers but ended up having each other’s backs after experiencing life and death together.

I also liked the way they brought up different cases and leave them unsolved just to link them all on one person. In most dramas, they usually solve cases on the spot and provide concrete evidence, which is soo boring to watch.

When it comes to chemistry between characters, I connected more with Feiyan and Prince Qin together with Rushuang and Xie Beiming. I find the relationship of Prince Qin and Su Ci a little boring because most of their dialogues are related to solving cases and it’s only by luck where you find them having a heart to heart talk.

The ending of the drama, happy ending of course, was unexpectedly incredible and I honestly enjoyed it so much. I loved the way the writers became unpredictable and built lot of suspense during the last two episodes. The final episode also was perfectly organized and we got a glimpse of how our heroes continued with their lives. This drama is highly recommended for all historical/costume drama lovers especially if you’re a fan of dramas like under the power.
